The story of the ceremony, which took place on 6 June 2026 in Kraków, began on 17 September 2003 with the start of the so-called Pelplin process for the Second Group of Martyrs of the Second World War, which concluded on 24 May 2011; this group included nine Salesian martyrs. Since 2017, we have been conducting the process for our confreres independently.

The beatification ceremony was not merely a commemoration of a tragic history, but a celebration of the victory of love over evil. The martyrdom of the Salesians was not an act of desperation, but a conscious acceptance of the Cross as the path of fidelity to God and to humanity. In the Auschwitz and Dachau concentration camps, in a place designed for dehumanisation, their attitude became a sign of hope that even there, a person can remain inwardly free and true to their conscience.

This beatification is also a powerful message for our times: a reminder that faith comes at a price, and that the education and care of young people require consistency and courage. The new Salesian blesseds show that true victory springs from fidelity, and that the meaning of life is found in the gift of self. Their witness remains a timely call to choose truth, love and goodness today, without compromise.
